The US won’t be flying humans in space anytime soon.
It’s no secret that NASA is pretty far behind schedule when it comes to returning to human spaceflight. Currently it’s working with two contractors, Boeing and SpaceX, for eventual crewed flights.
Ende des Jahres wollen SpaceX und Boeing die ersten bemannten Testflüge ihrer Raumkapseln unternehmen. Nur wenn bis dahin und danach alles klappt, könnte die NASA auch weiterhin Astronauten zur ISS schicken, warnen nun Experten.
Im Frühling fliegt der deutsche Astronaut Alexander Gerst für seine zweite Mission zur Internationalen Raumstation. Nach SPIEGEL-Informationen bekommt er dabei nun kurzfristig eine neue US-Kollegin.

01/24/2018 – Historic Falcon 9 Heavy Test Fire!
This is a test fire in advance of SpaceX’s upcoming Falcon 9 Heavy test launch. The test occurred on 1/24/2018 at Kennedy Space Center’s LC-39 Pad A which is the same pad that many Apollo and Space Shuttle launches took place from. SpaceX is currently leasing the pad from NASA.

Two NASA astronauts embarked on a spacewalk today (Jan. 23) and successfully replaced a degraded piece of equipment outside of the International Space Station, despite a software glitch that left the team running behind schedule.
Expedition 54 Flight Engineers Mark Vande Hei and Scott Tingle of NASA completed the first spacewalk this year at 2:13 p.m. EST, lasting 7 hours, 24 minutes. The two astronauts replaced a Latching End Effector (LEE) on the station’s robotic arm, Canadarm2.
