NASA und SpaceX geben grünes Licht für Crew Dragon-Start

Die US-Luft und Raumfahrtbehörde NASA und der Konzern SpaceX haben am Freitag in Cape Canaveral (Florida) grünes Licht für den Start der Demo-2-Mission des Crew Dragon am 27. Mai gegeben. Er werde um 16:33 Uhr Ortszeit (22.33 Uhr deutscher Zeit) stattfinden, wurde mitgeteilt.

Astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken plan to reveal a name for their Crew Dragon spaceship on the day they launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, reclaiming a tradition that dates back to the dawn of the Space Age. Hurley and Behnken are preparing for launch on a test flight to restore orbital human spaceflight capability to the United States.

Dragon crew runs through launch day dress rehearsal

Astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken donned their SpaceX-made launch and entry flight suits Saturday and rode to pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in a final dress rehearsal before launch day. They rode in a Tesla SUV with the license plate “ISSBND” — noting the crew’s destination of the International Space Station.

Third European Service Module for mission to land astronauts on the Moon

It’s official: when astronauts land on the Moon in 2024 they will get there with help from the European Service Module. The European Space Agency signed a contract with Airbus to build the third European Service Module for NASA’s Orion spacecraft that will ferry the next astronauts to land on the Moon.

The Artemis programme is bringing humans back to the Moon. It depends heavily on NASA’s Orion spacecraft that consists of a crew module and the European Service Module, which will provide propulsion, life support, environmental control and electrical power. Main contractor Airbus has just been green-lighted by ESA to develop a third European Service Module.

Three Expedition 63 crewmates are orbiting Earth getting ready to welcome a Japanese cargo ship and the first crew to launch from America in almost a decade. NASA Commander Chris Cassidy will command the Canadarm2 robotic arm to capture Japan’s ninth space freighter to visit the station on Memorial Day at 8:15 a.m. EDT. The H-II Transfer Vehicle-9 (HTV-9) is delivering over four tons of crew supplies, space experiments and new lithium-ion batteries to upgrade station power systems. Japan’s Resupply Ship Installed on Station’s Harmony Module

The unpiloted Japanese cargo spacecraft was installed this morning at 10:46 a.m. EDT to the Earth-facing port of the International Space Station’s Harmony module, where it will remain for two months. Expedition 63 Commander Chris Cassidy of NASA, with assistance from Russian Flight Engineer Ivan Vagner of Roscosmos, operated the station’s Canadarm2 robotic arm from the station’s cupola and grappled the 12-ton spacecraft.
